Goldholme Stone’s stone masons work throughout the UK to produce and restore a comprehensive range of architectural stone masonry components, in a choice of styles and profiles, a small selection of which is shown on this page.
The Stretton (Clipsham) limestone, extracted from our Hooby Lane quarry, is one of the hardest of the limestones making it ideal for stone masonry. It ranges from white to a dark honey coloration across its five beds which means that we can supply architectural components to match almost any regional stone colour variation.
A factsheet featuring the Stretton (Clipsham) Limestone, which is used to produce our architectural masonry and is complete with the quality assurance BRE test results, is available to download from this page.
From our flagship quarry close to Ancaster, near Grantham, we extract the reputable Ancaster Stone, a trusted building material since it’s discovery during the mid-Iron age.
Ancaster was an important fortress town located on Ermine Street, the main Roman route between London and Carlisle. This undoubtedly helped to broaden the stone’s appeal and explains why so many sought after honey/beige limestone. This is evident in countless country houses, churches and monuments in towns and cities throughout the UK, and was interestingly shipped along the river Slea and Witham to the east coast where it was transported down to London and more notably, Windsor Castle.
When ancient stone succumbs to the ravages of time or is damaged in some way it is important, and in many cases a requirement, to repair or replace sympathetically with a building stone as close, if not identical, to that which was originally used. Our Hooby Lane quarry yields stone ranging in colouration from white (very similar to Portland Stone) to the more usual shades of ‘honey’ which means that we can match almost all limestone colour variations.
When it comes to renovation and restoration, our talented stonemasons possess all of the traditional skills necessary to ensure the highest standard of work, in any type of stone and for all manner of heritage property or church restoration projects, anywhere in the UK.
