Your UK Quarry Stone Supplier
As one of the largest quarry stone suppliers in the UK, Goldholme Stone provide much of the natural quarry stone found for sale in builder’s merchants up and down the UK, and also provide quarry stone for many of the UK’s stonemasons, large and small natural stone restoration projects, and wholesale to many other UK quarry stone and natural walling stone suppliers.
Using natural stone as a building material remains a popular choice, and fortunately, Goldholme’s quarries have plenty of stone to provide for the decades to come.
Limestone Quarries UK
The most common Limestone quarried in the UK is Oolitic limestone from the Jurassic period.
The oolite limestone band and it’s associated quarries runs diagonally right the way across England; stretching down from the North East Coast, down through all Yorkshire counties, then through Lincolnshire and into East Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire, Rutland, Cambridgeshire, Northants, and then westerly towards Oxford, Gloucestershire, over to Bath, Wiltshire and down into Dorset.
There are no less than 30 local quarries strung out along this ribbon of quality limestone, the majority of which produce crushed road stone, Goldholme being one of the few that produces high-quality building stone.
Running alongside these Oolite Limestone resources are ample reserves of Ironstone (also known locally as Marlstone, Northamptonshire Sandstone, or Brown Stone). Most of these reserves were extracted during the late 1800s up until 1974 for the purpose of steelmaking, very few reserves remain today. Goldholme is one of a very few quarries which still supply this stone!
Carboniferous Limestone is located further North and West, with some of the biggest carboniferous limestone quarries being in the White Peak area of the Peak District.
The strategic location of our 2 main quarries taps into a variety of these limestone reserves including the white oolites and beautiful golden-brown ironstones, which has led to Goldholme becoming the biggest supplier of limestone quarry stone in the UK.

Our Local Quarries
Goldholme operate 2 of the biggest limestone quarries in the UK. The first of these is in Ancaster, Lincolnshire, and provides our Lincolnshire limestones such as Oolitic limestone and Ancaster Hard White Limestone.
Our Hooby Lane quarry, a local quarry near Stretton, Rutland, taps into the Clipsham limestone outcrop. This quarry provides quarry stone in a wide range of colours: from white (very similar to Portland Stone), to various shades of honey, brown and yellow. This means that we can match almost all limestone colour variations, including the popular Cotswold Stone.
Less than 10 miles from Stamford, the Hooby Lane local quarry is one of the main sources of Stamford Stone.
