A bespoke house for a growing family

Background

Much of the village of Nocton, Lincolnshire is subject to Conservation area status that aims to ensure special attention should be paid not only to the building form but also window form and materials used in extensions and new developments. Coursed limestone rubble walls are a popular material used in many Listed Buildings and Significant Unlisted Buildings around the village. Nearby All Saints Parish Church, Listed Grade II from 1862 designed by Sir George Gilbert Scott is built with Ancaster stone.

The clients bought a plot of land with planning permission for a beautiful detached property in the village of Nocton. They decided after many years of living in the Middle East to move back to the UK and pursue a dream they’ve always had of building their own family home. Well aware of the fact this would be a once in a lifetime opportunity, the clients were not willing to compromise on style or quality, and sought the best materials available to complete the project. Goldholme Stone were delighted when the family decided to use them for the main material used to build the property, including the use of Goldholme’s experienced masonry team along with hand finished walling stone that was a perfect colour match for the local area.

Approach

The family strived to build a comfortable, energy efficient and beautiful home they could be proud of. The Goldholme team know how stressful this can be, especially when self managing a project. The sales team, along with the masonry manager soon put the family at ease, supplying drawings of the masonry needed and a clear description of the walling stone for the project. Goldholme are proud to say that in 30 years of trading they have never missed a delivery.

The family initially emailed Nathan, our head of sales, a single photo of a door surround that they liked the look of. Nathan informed them that the door surround was made of wood, but with the help of the masonry team they could design the same style door surround in stone. The end result was a high quality hand made surround that framed the door beautifully and added character to the building.

Outcome

Generous in size, the family house and double garage was built in just over a year including walling stone, cills, heads, name stone, date stone and bespoke door surround.

Working with Goldholme was brilliant, Nathan was a credit to the company and very helpful.
