Phil Kerry met with the stone mason who was doing repair on the Seven Mile Wall around the Burghley Park and asked him what might be the reasons the wall is continuously crumbling down.

Dave Abbot, the stonemason from Abbey Stone & Masonry from Bourne, highlighted several reasons it might be happening. Dave thinks that splash from the traffic passing 10ft away, overgrowing trees blocking sunlight and lack of proper copings with drips are responsible for the stone wall decay. Phil thinks that the wall under repair is facing north and it might not dry adequately due to the lack of sunlight.

Spall on the tarmac footpath
Look at all that spall from the stone wall.

Phil and the team will look into this further and report shortly.
