Twenty years ago our main quarry yard was based at the former railway station in little Bytham. The railway ran right past the back of our yard. On the site was the original goods building (pictured above). For 130 years, this building played a vital role in the local economy. And along with the railway line it transformed the supply of foodstuffs, enabling fresh produce and other goods to be transported far more cheaply and at a much greater speed. Many local retailers depended on the building into the 1960s. The building was so iconic it was made into a flat pack build kit and sold to model railway enthusiasts all of the world.
